Nom de session
IHE38-Moving from knowledge to action on food security in Inuit Nunangat
Date et heure
mardi 7 décembre 2021, 13:30 - 14:45
Description

Food insecurity remains a serious social and public health issue across Inuit Nunangat despite decades of research and a spectrum of local, regional, and federal initiatives and policies to support food access and address the various social, economic, and environmental causes of food insecurity. Whereas food security is considered the goal, Inuit organizations have increasingly posited food sovereignty - which centres the rights of communities to (re)define local food systems and affirms Inuit self-determination over culture, economy, health, and political order - as the means. The objective of this session is to engage representatives from multiple sectors to explore and discuss new and innovative research projects and partnerships that may contribute to policies and community-based programs aimed at improving Arctic food security and food sovereignty
