In 2018, the Government of Canada formally recognized Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCA) as a conservation approach by co-establishing the Edéhzhíe Protected Area in the NWT. Since then, 27 IPCA establishment projects across Canada were funded through the Canada Nature Fund -- Pathway to Target 1. Several other Indigenous-led conservation efforts are underway across Canada's North, including National Marine Conservation Areas and National Wildlife Areas. This session will showcase these Indigenous-led conservation efforts across Canada's north, with a focus on Indigenous knowledge, practices, and conservation laws, research collaborations with western scientists, and Indigenous approaches to monitoring and environmental stewardship. Northern Indigenous conservation leaders will be invited and encouraged to present with their collaborators, highlighting their unique approaches to conservation within their cultural worldviews and methods for protecting the natural world
