Nom de session
NPD22-Meeting Northern Needs for Climate Services
Date et heure
mardi 7 décembre 2021, 13:30 - 14:45
Description

The Arctic environment of Canada is changing at a rapid pace with growing and negative implications for the communities that live there. We often hear that relationship building and the communication of western science knowledge of climate change in a manner that is both accessible and respectful to Indigenous knowledge systems is imperative for ensuring evidence-based decisions are made in a timely manner. However, examples of this remain the exception rather than the rule. This session focuses on current efforts of climate service providers working in the North to advance the accessibility and relevance of their platforms through virtual portals and via in-person "brokerage" efforts. The panel will explore the ongoing work of the Canadian Centre for Climate Services, academic institutions, Indigenous governments and organizations, not-for-profit organizations, and territorial governments. The panel will examine the opportunities and constraints of existing approaches and ingredients for sustained success.
