The coastal ocean consists of diverse but closely connected ecosystems that include estuaries, rivers, tidal wetlands, and the continental shelf. These ecosystems have been the focus of many studies due to their key role in the global biogeochemical cycling of carbon and nutrients. However, there are still many unanswered questions due to the lack of sampling and the spatial and temporal variability of air-sea gas exchange. This session is multidisciplinary and invites observational, theoretical, and model studies focusing on the investigation of the air-sea gas exchange and its driving physical and biogeochemical processes in the coastal ocean and beyond at different spatial and temporal scales.
